Abstract

The design of complex part geometries becomes more and more important for the fabrication of functional prototype components for trials during the turbomachinery development process. For that reason, the Rapid Manufacturing technologies deliver the performance to manufacture especially these kind of components. This is shown by a long-standing cooperation of the chairs of Turbomachinery, Computer-Aided Engineering and the Rapid Technology Center at the University of Duisburg-Essen with a proven record of success. Therefore, several related best practice examples are presented. These examples reveal the process chain for designing and manufacturing of rotor discs, casings etc. within different scales for laser sintering. Referring to this, the connected preliminary considerations and subsequent processes are outlined.
