Rapid Prototyping has grown fast since it has been invented in the 1980s. Today, Rapid Prototyping is used in many different industries like engineering or medicine technology. Generative manufactured components might be cheaper than components which have been conventionally manufactured. There are different parameters which can be optimized to get high quality 3d-printed components in particular by using fused layer modelling. The main question is how are functionality, surface, and tensile strength influenced by parameters like infill, layer thickness, temperature, and humidity? In this experiment series, we tested standardized components in a tensile testing machine. Temperature and humidity were willful uncontrolled to get realistic results. The parameters infill and layer thickness were varied in each charge of printing. The largest elastic modulus was printed with an infill of 75 % and a layer thickness of 0,05 mm. The larger the infill is, the larger the elastic modulus gets. The results are a first step to identify the influence of the printing parameters to maximize the elastic modulus. The observed large deviation of the elastic modulus can be traced back to the fact of uncontrolled climate parameters (ambient temperature, humidity).Downloads
