Platten-Press-Löten für die Herstellung großer metallischer Werkzeuge
Abstract
Tool manufacturing in different areas of polymer processing increasingly demands complex designs of tempering channels. Thus, contour conformal tempering is becoming increasingly important. Compared to conventional tempering systems, contour conformal tempering allows a more uniform cooling of the part to be produced. In turn, this results in lower residual stresses and reduced warping. The overall cooling rates increase, thereby reducing the cycle time in the production of polymer components and thus increases the profitability. Furthermore, sink marks in the finished molded part can thereby be avoided and higher quality surface finish is achieved. The development of new, cost-effective tool manufacturing processes for the realization of conformal tempering channels is particularly useful for large tools. A promising new and powerful manufacturing process which allows for the production of large tools with complex conformal tempering systems while reducing manufacturing time and cost is the process called Plate-Press-Brazing (PPB). Being still in the development stage, this process combines the advantages of traditional metal processing with the freedom of internal geometry usually obtained by additive manufacturing. The basics of the PPB process including material scientific aspects of this production technology are presented in this lecture.Downloads
