Abstract

The manufacturing of complex ceramic parts is expensive. The hardness of the sintered parts and the abrasive properties of the ceramic slurry leads to a lot of wear at the shape giving tools. Due to the layer by layer manufacturing of the AM-processes it is possible to build complex parts tool-less that couldn’t be build by conventional manufacturing processes. This was the motivation to develop a 3D-printing process for the manufacturing of ceramic parts made of alumina oxide and silicon carbide. In this process the ceramic material is selectively bonded with a binder. The green parts are sintered afterwards. The porosity of the sintered parts is in the range of 50-70%. This kind of ceramics can be used for example for hot gas mixture or shells for high temperature furnaces. For extending the application area of the silicon carbide ceramics the silicon infiltration will be investigated.
