Abstract

Additive manufacturing (AM) is gaining importance in diverse sectors like automotive, aerospace, and dental. Companies use various AM technologies with unique post-processing requirements, leading to increased process complexity. The product portfolio ranges from prototypes to mid-volume series products, resulting in increased production complexity. Manual product tracking in AM production is costly and has a high error rate. Computer vision is a potential solution for order tracking in AM, which could reduce production cost and complexity. However, the factors affecting the applicability of computer vision in AM production environments are yet to be addressed by research. This work examines product- and process-related relevant to the applicability of computer vision for order tracking in AM.
