Abstract

With the steadily increasing demand for environmentally friendly and resource-saving products, the energy perspective of production processes is also gaining significance. Metal additive manufacturing offers a high potential for savings, which need to be initially identified. Saving potentials can be evaluated using energy models, which were determined from the energy requirements of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) processes. The varying accuracy is due to the quality of the time models, which analyze the laser power in detail, but calculate with specific energy factors. The analysis of the influence of the so far disregarded jump times, during which the laser is repositioned, and no manufacturing takes place, leads to an improvement of the simulationaccuracy. The jump times, which are small compared to the total manufacturing time, also explain the large fluctuations in the high-resolution scanning of the laser power. For implementation into existing energy models, the jump times must be extracted from the manufacturing files of the slicer.
